Clown show at MontCo Council hearing

Montgomery County Council’s hearing room filled with clowns Tuesday — or at least clown noses.

The council held public hearings on three bills aimed at changing union bargaining processes. Opposing the bills, the Municipal and County Government Employees Organization turned out in large numbers, almost all of them wearing red clown noses.

The union testified against a bill that would require the County Council to hold a public hearing on every collective bargaining agreement submitted. The other two bills would scale back “effects bargaining” for the Fraternal Order of Police to match that of the county’s Municipal and County Government Employees Organization and Montgomery County Career Fire Fighters, and create an arbitration panel to handle impasse arbitration.

All three bills are scheduled for committee on Thursday.
