Sheriff Joe: ‘Donald Trump will build the wall’

Donald Trump’s “law-and-order” campaign got a boost Thursday night from Sheriff Joe Arpaio, the Arizona sheriff known for his unapologetic stance against illegal immigration.

“Donald Trump will build the wall, and restore law and order and keep drugs and illegal immigrants from entering into our country,” Arpaio said at the last night of the Republican National Convention, just before Trump was set to deliver his acceptance speech.

“Let’s elect a leader who will stand up for America, and protect our border, and support law enforcement and the military,” he said. “And in doing so, unite our country. Let’s elect Donald Trump.”

Arpaio said Trump paid his wife special attention this year after she was diagnosed with cancer. But he said Trump didn’t have to do that to win his support, “because I was already hooked.”

“I am supporting Donald Trump because he is a leader. He produces results,” Arpaio said.

Arpaio has been criticized for supporting a method of law enforcement that involves racial profiling. He also defended a controversial Arizona immigration law, which was mostly struck down but still authorizes police to check people’s immigration status when they are detained.
