Beginning next week I-270 motorists will get some extra pain added to their already congested commute. The Maryland State Highway Administration has announced a repaving project starting Aug. 29 along more than one mile of I-270 from I-495 (Capital Beltway) to Old Georgetown Road that is expected to last until next summer.
Crews will replace the center concrete barrier, patch various sections of the road, grind, and pave travel lanes and install new pavement markings. They are scheduled to begin work on the concrete barrier wall after Labor Day.
SHA says it will schedule work during the hours below to avoid morning and evening peak travel times. But in this region, does rush hour really end?
Here are the details:
Northbound I-270
• Single lane closures Monday-Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• Double lane closures Sunday-Thursday between midnight and 5 a.m.
Southbound I-270
• Single lane closures Monday-Friday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
• Double lane closures Sunday-Thursday between midnight and 5 a.m.
