The top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee jabbed President Trump on Friday for a 2013 tweet, in which Trump said striking Syria without congressional approval would be a “big mistake.”
Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., pointed to the tweet shortly after Trump informed the country that the U.S., along with the United Kingdom and France was conducting an airstrike against Syria.

“As I said in 2013, under Pres. Obama, Constitution requires congressional authorization for use of military force in Syria,” Nadler tweeted. “Previous 9/11-related authorization doesn’t cover strike on Syrian gov’t. @realDonaldTrump‘s actions tonight appear to be unlawful if not unconstitutional.”
Ahead of the air strike, 88 lawmakers pressed Trump to consult Congress before taking any action in Syria, warning that failure to get authorization from Congress “would violate the separation of powers.” Fourteen Republicans signed the letter.
