LEESBURG, Va. (AP) — The Virginia Board of Education has endorsed an application for a math- and science-based charter school in Loudoun County.
The Washington Post (http://tinyurl.com/c32svs9 ) reports that the board took the action Thursday. The proposal now goes to the local school board for final approval.
The Loudoun Math and IT Academy would provide math and science courses for students in sixth grade through 12th grade. It would open next year.
There are no charter schools in northern Virginia. However, a proposal for a charter school serving students in seventh grade through 12th grade is pending before the Fairfax County school board.
