Metro is investigating a report that a MetroAccess driver was having sex with a rider inside a service van for those with disabilities on Monday.
The transit agency was alerted about the case via Twitter. A blogger tweeted seeing the van midday on Second and Adams streets in Northeast, slightly west of the Rhode Island Avenue Metro stop and near the Glenwood Cemetery.
The tweets said the blogger knocked on the van window, which caused the pair to stop. The van then pulled away.
Metro Transit Police went to the site and found no evidence to corroborate the report, said Metro spokeswoman Caroline Lukas. “Nevertheless, the operator has been removed from service pending the official conclusion of the investigation,” she said.
MetroAccess drivers, who transport riders with disabilities around the region for the transit system, were involved in at least three reports of sexual assault involving riders in 2010. The transit agency and its contractor pledged to retrain all its drivers about appropriate conduct after the second case.
