Sidwell Friends School is being sued for $10 million for allowing its staff psychologist to carry on an affair with the married mother of a 5-year-old student he was treating.
James Huntington taught sexual education to sixth-grade students in 2009-2010 — the same year that President Obama’s daughter Malia was in the sixth-grade at the elite Quaker private school — while having sex with Tara Newmyer, according to a lawsuit filed by her husband on Thursday morning.
Terry Newmyer is seeking $10 million for emotional damage inflicted on his oldest child, who was a pre-kindergarten student at Sidwell. Newmyer claims that Sidwell allowed the affair to continue for a year after he first brought it to the school’s attention, before firing Huntington in February 2011.
