Trump lawyer: ‘I agree with Peter Strzok’

President Trump’s lawyer admitted Thursday there was at least one point he and former FBI agent Peter Strzok agreed on.

“I never thought I would say this. I agree with Peter Strzok, the agent that was — had the text mails regarding the president back and forth with Lisa Page,” Jay Sekulow told Fox News’ Sean Hannity.

“He said, ‘There was no there there.’ Guess what. There was no there there,” he said.

Trump and his allies have been triumphant after a redacted version of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report was released by the Justice Department earlier Thursday. The report described “numerous links” between the Trump campaign and Russians, but Mueller said “the evidence was not sufficient to support criminal charges.” He also detailed numerous instances of possible obstruction of justice, but did not make a conclusion on whether Trump did so. Attorney General William Barr made the conclusion instead, determining Trump did not obstruct justice.

Strzok, a former FBI agent, said in a text message before joining Mueller’s team that “my gut sense and concern is there’s no big there there.” Strzok was removed from Mueller’s team after it was discovered that he had exchanged anti-Trump text messages with his mistress, FBI lawyer Lisa Page.

The president and Republicans frequently used Strzok as an example of the Mueller team being biased against Trump.
