Donald Trump is going after Bill Clinton’s sordid sexual history because the GOP front-runner is hoping to stop the former president from campaigning with his wife, Hillary Clinton, NBC News reported Monday.
Trump is bringing up Bill Clinton’s many sex scandals — which include allegations of rape and sexual assault — with increasing frequency on the campaign trail. The move comes after Hillary Clinton commented on Trump’s supposed “penchant for sexism.”
However, Trump isn’t bringing up Bill Clinton’s long history of alleged sexual misconduct as a simple tit-for-tat, according to NBC News’ Katy Tur. There’s a reason why the billionaire businessman is going after the former president’s dirty laundry.
“Privately … [Trump’s] campaign tells NBC News that essentially they’re trying to get Bill Clinton off the campaign trail,” she said Monday. “Why is that? Well, experts will tell you Bill Clinton has all the charisma that Hillary Clinton does not have on the campaign trail.”
“Voters like him. Voters are able to relate to him in a way that his wife may not be able to. Donald Trump wants to neutralize him so that if he wins this nomination for the general election, then he’ll be able to take her down and win the presidency,” she added.
A number of newsrooms, including the New York Times, CNN and MSNBC, have suggested recently that it’s dirty pool for Trump to tie the Democratic front-runner to her husband’s many sexual indirections.
