Biden to say his campaign begins today in Philadelphia, despite announcing in April

PHILADELPHIA — Former Vice President Joe Biden is expected to say his campaign is launching today in Philadelphia, according to excerpts from his remarks released early by his presidential campaign.

“So why do we begin this journey in this place — Philadelphia? Because this was the birthplace of our democracy,” the remarks read. “It was here that two of the most important documents in the world’s history were written.”

In advertising on social media and to his supporters, Biden’s campaign advertised today’s event as a “campaign kick-off,” despite the fact that he made the announcement in an April 25 video address.

Biden then attended a closed-door fundraiser for wealthy donors that same night, before heading to Pittsburgh, the following week for a public rally.

Since announcing, Biden has made multiple campaign stops in Iowa, South Carolina, Nevada, New Hampshire, and California.

On Thursday, Biden’s campaign announced that Philadelphia is its 2020 headquarters.
