Protesters outside Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen’s home on Friday morning played audio recordings of migrant children crying as they were being separated from their parents.
It was the same audio released by ProPublica this week. The demonstrators, who were also chanting “free the kids,” gathered outside of Nielsen’s townhouse just days after she was forced out of a Mexican restaurant in Washington, D.C., by socialist protesters.

Progressive social change organization CREDO Action organized the protests, which began at 7:30 a.m. in the rain.

Nielsen was home at the time protests began and had to walk past protesters yelling “shame” as she walked from her house to her car.
Nielsen has received public backlash for supporting President Trump’s zero tolerance policy at the border, which has resulted in an increased amount of migrant children being separated from their parents.
