Louisiana sheriff’s deputy fired after arrest on child pornography charges

A deputy for a Louisiana sheriff’s office was fired Wednesday after he was arrested on charges of 20 counts of child pornography.

Brandon Morris, 24, was arrested following an investigation by the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office, which included help from detectives with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office’s juveniles division. Morris, who was employed by the sheriff’s office for eight months, was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail on Wednesday and awaits bond, according to a statement from the APSO.

“We hold our deputies to high standards, and no one is above the law when situations like this occur,“ Sheriff Bobby Webre said. “It tarnishes our badge and violates community trust.”

Morris was still in training when he was arrested and fired.

APSO arrested and fired a corrections deputy, Todd Eric Tripp, in 2013 on more than 300 counts of possession of child pornography and other sex crimes. He was arrested on additional counts over the next few years while out on bail, according to the Advocate.
