Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley is praising Donald Trump’s list of potential Supreme Court nominees.
According to the Iowa Republican, the list of 11 potential nominees is “pretty encouraging” and should help taper fears from some Republicans that the presumed presidential frontrunner is not conservative enough.
“If anybody had any doubts, and I think a lot of people do have doubts, this will help settle that,” Grassley told Bloomberg Politics of Trump’s shortlist, released Wednesday afternoon.
Grassley has been at the forefront of Senate Republicans’ decision not to hold hearings for President Obama’s nominee for the Supreme Court vacancy, Merrick Garland. The GOP’s reasoning is that the Obama’s successor should fill the vacancy.
Grassley had previously praised Garland’s “acumen” and “honesty.”
Trump told Fox News’ Sean Hannity that he may not even pick one of the 11 judges on his list should he be the next president.
“We’re either going to choose from this list or people very close to it,” he said. “At a minimum, we will keep people from this general realm.”
