Melania Trump picks Trump International Hotel manager as chief usher

First lady Melania Trump announced Friday that she has selected the director of rooms at Trump International Hotel to serve as White House chief usher.

Timothy Harleth presently oversees more than 110 employees at the Trump hotel in Washington, D.C., the White House said Friday.

“I am so pleased that Timothy will be joining our team,” Melania Trump said in a statement. “He was selected because of his impressive work history and management skills. My husband and I know he will be successful in this vital role within the White House.”

As chief usher, Harleth will oversee the more than 90 household staffers who service the White House. Harleth will coordinate everyone from chefs to florists in his new role.

“I am so honored at the opportunity to serve the First Family in their new home,” Harleth said Friday. “I look forward to applying my experience with hospitality, leadership, and political protocol in order to ensure the First Family’s needs are met, while also protecting and preserving the rich history of the White House. I am excited to work alongside the accomplished and professional staff who are already in place.”

The Trump administration dismissed Angella Reid, the previous chief usher, in early May.
