A book by Hillary Clinton’s spiritual adviser, Rev. Bill Shillady — whom Clinton credited with helping her recover after her crushing loss during the 2016 presidential election — is being pulled from shelves after multiple cases of plagiarism were discovered.
It was reported in August that the pastor plagiarised another minister in an uplifting email sent to Clinton following her loss, that is published in the book, according to the CNN.
“Abingdon Press initiated an extensive review of the book and was alarmed to discover other content unattributed by the author. Abingdon Press has zero tolerance for plagiarism,” the Rev. Brian Milford, the president of the publishing company said in a statement. “Consequently, we have discontinued sales, will remove existing copies from all sales outlets, and will have them destroyed along with our existing inventory.”
The book, Strong for a Moment Like This, went on sale in August and encompassed multiple emails that Shillady and other spiritual advisers sent to Clinton while she was on the campaign trail. Clinton also wrote the foreword for the devotional.
Shillady offered an apology.
“I deeply regret my actions. I was wrong and there is no excuse for it. I apologize to those whose work I mistakenly did not attribute, Shillady told the Washington Post. “I apologize to those I have disappointed, including Secretary Hillary Clinton, Abingdon Press, and all the writers and others who have helped me publish and promote this book. I ask for everyone’s forgiveness.”
