Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker said “it’s not right” that 60 percent of the residents leave the county for work everyday.
“That is not right. It must change and it will change,” Baker said.
He made the comments during his first “State of the Economy Address” to the Prince George’s Chamber of Commerce at the University of Maryland Tuesday night.
Baker said one way to keep residents from leaving the county for work is to “seize every opportunity” to draw federal tenants to the county’s office space.
The county executive also touted his recently proposed $50 million economic development plan which would provide loans and other incentives to businesses that would locate to the county. New businesses, he said, would help grow the county’s corporate tax base and help pay for education and public safety.
