Teachout wins endorsement of women’s group

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Zephyr Teachout has won the endorsement of the National Organization for Women’s New York Chapter as she seeks to oust Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

The women’s advocacy group said Sunday that it’s “proud” to support what it says is a “historic” effort to elect the state’s first female governor.

Teachout, a law professor at Fordham University, is mounting a long-shot bid to topple Cuomo in next month’s Democratic primary.

Teachout called the endorsement a “surprising rebuke” of the sitting governor, whose campaign hopes to appeal to women with a new “Women’s Equality Party” line on the November ballot.

Teachout was also endorsed Monday by the New York state chapter of the Sierra Club. Earlier this month she received the support of New York state’s second largest public employees union.
