Gun control advocate David Hogg on Tuesday defended his recent claim that Democratic leadership won’t “move the fuck off the plate” so young people can take office.
Hogg, who became a student advocate after the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in February, urged Democrats to “allow young people to seize leadership opportunities,” pointing to how the Republicans have Sen. Marco Rubio and House Speaker Paul Ryan.
While he acknowledged that he called out House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., as “old” in a New York Magazine cover story that was quickly picked up by conservative news outlets, he stressed that this same description could also be applied to President Trump and Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah.
In my opinion we need a representative congress in terms of what this country looks like.

Hogg, who is one of the most recognized faces among the student-led gun control movement, emphasized how he believes a younger generation of lawmakers will break the gridlock that is so often a part of Congress.
“Older generations can lead but we need congress to empower more young people. So in the future when things as important as the ACA come up the current leadership can show young people how to get it passed,” Hogg tweeted.

In the New York Magazine cover story, Hogg said he plans to run for office as soon as he turns 25. He also said: “Older Democrats just won’t move the fuck off the plate and let us take control. Nancy Pelosi is old.”
