Michael Cohen’s lawyer: We don’t believe Stormy Daniels was threatened

A lawyer for President Trump’s longtime personal attorney Michael Cohen accused porn star Stormy Daniels of lying in her “60 Minutes” interview about being threatened to stay quiet about her alleged affair with Trump.

In a letter sent to Daniels’ lawyer Michael Avenatti, and obtained by CBS News, Cohen attorney Brent Blakely said Daniels and Avenatti made “false and defamatory statements” during the interview that aired Sunday.

“In truth, Mr. Cohen had absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with any such person or incident, and does not even believe that any such person exists, or that such incident ever occurred,” the letter said.

“You and your client’s false statements about Mr. Cohen accuse him of criminal conduct and constitute, among other claims, libel per se and intentional infliction of emotional distress,” it continues.

Blakely demanded that Avenatti and Daniels immediately retract their statements about issue a public apology to Cohen.

Daniels alleged in the Sunday interview that she was threatened by a man in a Las Vegas parking lot after a magazine story about the affair she said she had with Trump in the early days of his marriage to first lady Melania Trump.

“A guy walked up on me and said to me, ‘leave Trump alone. Forget the story,’” she explained. “He leaned around and looked at my daughter and said, ‘That’s a beautiful little girl, it’d be shame if something happened to her mom.’”

The White House has denied the affair happened.

The two parties are currently in a legal battle over whether the nondisclosure agreement barring Daniels from talking about the alleged affair is valid because Trump did not sign the documents.
