Six dead after fiery crash on Georgia interstate, police say

At least six people are dead and several others injured following a fiery crash on a Georgia interstate, police said Saturday.

Around 6:30 p.m., the Gwinnett County police and fire departments responded to a crash along Interstate Highway 85 near the I-985 split. The area is roughly 35 miles northeast of Atlanta, according to the Associated Press.

Passersby stopped and attempted to remove victims from a passenger van that was on its side and “engulfed in flames.” Police confirmed to the Washington Examiner that there were 16 passengers in the vehicle and the group was sober.

Six people were declared dead at the scene, and several others were transported to local hospitals for treatment. One bystander, who suffered a minor injury, denied transport, according to police.
