DUI, manslaughter charges in death of 8-year-old pedestrian

A Fairfax man is facing manslaughter and drunk driving charges after an 8-year-old boy was killed in an Alexandria crash.

Alexandria police said 22-year-old Victor Aldana was driving west on Duke Street near the Interstate 395 overpass when he veered off the road, hitting two pedestrians — a 31-year-old woman and an 8-year-old boy. The boy, Brian Hernandez-Chavez, was killed. The woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Aldana has been charged with DUI manslaughter, DUI maiming, reckless driving and driving without an operator’s license, police said Monday.

Th crash happened at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
