Montgomery County Executive Leggett is celebrating the start of African Heritage Month with a gala in Silver Spring on Labor Day weekend. Hosted by members of the county’s African Affairs Advisory Group, the event will take place Sept. 4 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Silver Spring Civic Building in Veterans Plaza and will feature African cuisine and musical entertainment. Montgomery County was the first in the United States to proclaim September African Heritage Month.
