President Trump’s former campaign manager won’t run for a New Hampshire Senate seat in 2020.
Corey Lewandowski has teased a potential run for months but said in October he would wait to see how much money the declared Republican candidates had raised before making a decision. On Tuesday, however, he announced his decision against launching a bid, saying he’s “certain [he] would have won” but that helping Trump get reelected remains one of his top priorities.
“NH needs a US Senator who will put our citizens first and not illegal aliens; one who will support pro-growth policies to keep the Trump economy strong,” he tweeted. “One who will support strict constitutionalist judges; and one who will fight for our values, not those of Washington, DC.”
(1/3) After much consideration I have decided to forgo a campaign for the US Senate. While taking on a career politician from the Washington swamp is a tall order, I am certain I would have won. My priorities remain my family and ensuring that @realDonaldTrump is re-elected POTUS

(3/3) One who will support strict constitutionalist judges; and one who will fight for our values, not those of Washington, DC. Accordingly, I will be making an endorsement in the Republican Primary for US Senate in the near future to ensure we defeat Jeanne Shaheen in 2020.

Lewandowski said he would be endorsing a candidate in the Republican primary “in the near future.”
Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen is running for a third term to represent the state. The leading Republican candidates are retired Gen. Don Bolduc and former state House Speaker Bill O’Brien, neither of whom have the national profile that Lewandowski would have brought to the race.
Polls suggested Lewandowski could have won the Republican primary but would have faced a more competitive race against Shaheen in a state Hillary Clinton narrowly won against Trump in 2016.
