Anita Hill says she is open to voting for Biden over Trump

Anita Hill would consider voting for Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden if the 2020 contest comes down to him and President Trump.

Hill told NBC’s Andrea Mitchell that “of course I could” vote for Biden over Trump in a Thursday interview that aired on “NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt.” Hill has criticized Biden recently for his handling of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas’ 1991 Senate confirmation hearing.

“I never said [that Biden’s handling of the Thomas hearing should disqualify him],” Hill said. “I’m not even sure that anything I’ve said has actually hurt Joe Biden’s campaign. He still is leading in the polls.”

Biden apologized for the way he handled Thomas’ confirmation when he was chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Biden said in March, “To this day, I regret I couldn’t get her the kind of hearing she deserved.”

Hill had accused Thomas of sexually harassing her when she worked under him at the Department of Education and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. After hearing testimony from both Hill and Thomas, the Democrat-run committee confirmed Thomas to the bench.

“She was abused through the hearing, she was taken advantage of, her reputation was attacked. I wish I could have done something, and I opposed Clarence Thomas’s nomination — I voted against him,” Biden said.

Hill did not accept the apology and demanded more from Biden. She still holds him responsible for the committee’s treatment of her and her allegations.

“I cannot be satisfied by simply saying, ‘I’m sorry for what happened to you.’ I will be satisfied when I know there is real change and real accountability and real purpose,” she said.

“Absolutely not,” Hill maintained regarding whether Biden and Trump are on the same moral plane.
