Marine Corps Gen. James E. Cartwright kicked off The Carey School of Business Leaders + Legends lecture series Thursday with a grim message of hope.
The vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said forces at work in the world today could be “species-ending. … Are we at a tipping point? Yes. Will we have control? No.”
But Carey said “the generation we are bringing up is truly awesome” from what he has learned working with young people in our military. “They have transitioned from being told what to think, to being taught how to think.”
Carey said the generation poised to lead is smart, able to adapt quickly and “understands the interdependence of the world.”
Johns Hopkins’ Carey Business School started the series “to engage business and community professionals in an examination of the most compelling issues and challenges facing society today.” The November speaker is Sheila Bair, chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. –Staff reports
