Richard Branson says Trump’s climate agreement pullout a ‘very, very strange’ decision: Report

President Trump will likely regret the “bizarre mistake” of pulling the US from the Paris climate agreement, according to British billionaire Richard Branson.

While speaking in New York City, the Virgin Group founder said that U.S. companies and cities were willing to transition to low-carbon energy, making President Trump’s withdrawl from the international deal “very, very strange,” the Guardian reports.

“With climate change, it’s America first and our beautiful globe last, and that seems incredibly sad,” said Branson. “I’ve got a feeling that the president is regretting what he did. Maybe his children and son in law are saying, ‘Look, I told you so.’ Hopefully there is a positive change of mind.”

The billionaire said his companies were willing to join the “We Are Still In” campaign, a conglomerate of companies, states, and cities willing to commit to lowering their carbon emissions in the U.S.

According to the report, Branson said it is unlikely that Trump can be persuaded to change his mind about the accord. “Trump had hundreds of the most influential business leaders in the world speaking to him and he ignored them, so there’s no guarantee that he’ll change his mind,” Branson said.
