California became the first state in the country to effectuate a coronavirus vaccine mandate for schoolchildren.
The state will require that children receive the COVID-19 vaccine to return to the classroom in person. The mandate will go into effect following approval from the Food and Drug Administration, according to the governor’s office.
“Our schools already require vaccines for measles, mumps, and more,” said Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat. “Why? Because vaccines work.”
