Filmmaker and liberal activist Michael Moore trashed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in a tweet to his 6 million followers, suggesting she’s old and in the way of progress.
His missive came after Pelosi, D-Calif., brushed aside a question during a television interview about the importance of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her faction of new ultra liberals in the Democratic caucus.
“White people. Nobody likes giving up power,” Moore tweeted. “And they never see the writing on the wall. The new day arrives and no one has the heart to tell them they and their old tired privileged ways are over.”
Pelosi recently told “60 Minutes” that Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and other attention-grabbing progressive freshman are not very influential in the caucus of 235 Democratic lawmakers and are in fact, “like five people.”
On Monday, she told the London School of Economics progressives, Ocasio-Cortez and herself are not the reason Democrats won the majority and that the agenda must be “culled” to appeal to swing district voters who sent enough Republicans packing in favor of moderate Democrats in 2018 to put the GOP in the minority.
Moore’s tweet was in response to Time editor-at-large Anand Giridharadas, who said, “Nancy Pelosi doesn’t think it’s important to impeach an authoritarian president who threatens American liberty, but she does think it’s important to minimize @AOC and other women of color who won extraordinary victories to Congress as ‘like five people.’”
