Paul Ryan to join conservative think tank in Washington

Paul Ryan has landed a new job.

The former Republican speaker of the House of Representatives is joining the American Enterprise Institute, a conservative think tank based in Washington, D.C.

Ryan will serve as a “distinguished visiting fellow in the practice of public policy,” and is already a board member of the Fox Corporation.

At AEI, Ryan will focus on opportunity, mobility, the social safety net, and entitlement reform, the institute said in a release.

“Paul Ryan has always been among the most substantive and thoughtful of political leaders,” said President Robert Doar. “He possesses a keen awareness of how politics works (and doesn’t work), a firm belief in the potential of all Americans, and an understanding of the limitations of the federal government. We are very glad that he will bring all of that to AEI.”

Last month, it was reported Ryan was moving his family to Washington, D.C., from the Wisconsin district he served in Congress for nearly 10 terms.

His wife, Janna, 50, is a former tax lawyer and corporate lobbyist.

Ryan left public service in January so he could spend more time with his family, he said.

“The American Enterprise Institute has long been at the forefront of advancing ideas and solutions that expand freedom, opportunity, and individual liberty,” Ryan said. “The American Enterprise Institute is needed now more than ever as conservatives debate and study the key policy issues of our day, and in the coming year, I am excited to add my own views and findings to the debate.”
