Arlington decides not to ban kids from dog parks

Arlington officials have decided not to ban children from the county’s dog parks.

The county was considering rules that would have banned children under 8 from entering the dog parks, and would have required children between 8 and 14 to be accompanied by an adult. The measure was meant to protect children, supporters said.

Arlington officials decided the rules would not be necessary, Director of Parks and Recreation Dinesh Tiwari wrote in a letter to dog park supporters July 21, as first reported by ARLnow.com. Tiwari assured dog park users that the county would install more signs advising parents to pay close attention to children in the parks.

There have been no reports of any children being hurt in the dog parks.
