Vice President Mike Pence slammed the Democratic presidential candidates debating Thursday night as moving radically to the Left and embracing a destructive economic agenda.
Speaking to attendees at the 40th Anniversary gala of Concerned Women for America, a nonprofit Christian women’s organization, Pence warned that Democrats are motivated going into the 2020 election and have a dangerous vision for America.
“As we’ll see on the debate stage tonight, the Democratic Party has gone so far to the Left, I think that stage is probably about to turn over,” Pence said Thursday. “The truth is, all kidding aside, the Democratic Party today has embraced a radical, liberal agenda on social issues. And most remarkably, leading Democratic candidates for national office and in the Congress openly advocate an economic system that has impoverished millions and robbed the liberties of generations.”
“Leading voices in the Democratic Party openly advocate socialism,” Pence said.
Pence said members of the organization must stand up to stop socialism.
“I say to you, the moment America becomes a socialist country is the moment America ceases to be America, so CWA must resolve here and now that in this next year-and-a-half we will say with one voice as the president said in his State of the Union address, America will never be a socialist country,” said Pence.
Most Democratic candidates have been wary of being labeled socialists, although Bernie Sanders has embraced the label of democratic socialist. New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has also accepted being called a democratic socialist.
