Families new to Howard County or have a child about to start school for the first time now should register at their local school.
A delay makes it more difficultfor school officials to ensure that schools are staffed with the right number of teachers and support staff members, said Marion Miller, the school system?s director of Elementary School Administration.
Parents also should know that kindergarten is mandatory for children who are 5 years old on or before Sept. 1, school officials said.
Parents should have with them at registration proof of residency, student?s date of birth, parent identity, parental relationship or custody, emancipation when applicable, and current student immunization.
Registration takes place at the school the student will attend.
County schools open for students Aug. 25.
