Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will not meet with Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel as planned this week, the State Department announced.
Although Pompeo was slated to meet with Merkel and German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas in Berlin Tuesday, the meeting was rescheduled due to “pressing issues.”
But Pompeo “looks forward to being in Berlin soon” to hold the meetings that were originally supposed to be held regarding “issues of mutual concern” such as Russia, China, and Syria.
According to Maas’ office, he and Pompeo have been in touch and said they “agreed to quickly find a new date for a meeting.”
Merkel’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Associated Press.
Pompeo, who attended an Arctic Council ministerial meeting in Finland on Monday, is still traveling but it’s uncertain where he is headed next. Press accompanying Pompeo have not been informed where the next stop is.
