STORYLINE:

Parisians and tourists attached heart-shaped padlocks onto the Pont des Arts bridge on Thursday to celebrate Valentine’s Day in the French capital – the “City of Love”.

The lovestruck couples then threw the padlocks’ keys into the Seine River from the bridge, which faces the Louvre Museum.

Among those who braved the rain and freezing temperatures to lock their love on the bridge were former Dutch international football player Patrick Kluivert, now head coach of the youth side of the Dutch club FC Twente, and his wife Rossana Kluivert-Lima.

“I woke up and then he kidnapped me and then we went in the train to Paris and there were all kind of surprises,” said Rossana.

She said she hoped that, in the future, the couple’s five-year-old son would come to the bridge, perhaps with a girlfriend, to find his parents’ lock.
