A judge has sentenced a Seattle man to five years in prison for repeatedly making threats against the President Trump’s family, synagogues, and members of the media.
Chase Bliss Colasurdo, 27, pleaded guilty in May to threatening to bomb synagogues and commit violence against media figures in southern California. Colasurdo also made online threats against Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr.
Colasurdo has a history of severe mental illness and paranoid delusions. He was sentenced for his crimes on Friday, according to the Associated Press.
The case highlights the “frightening intersection of mental illness and weapons,” U.S. Attorney Brian Moran said.
Law enforcement started tracking him after he made a series of threats against the Trump family on social media and in letters to various media outlets.
Police met with Colasurdo, and he blamed the social media posts on a hack while continuing to post threats about bombing synagogues. Law enforcement arrested Colasurdo after he began buying gear such as a holster, a bulletproof vest, and ammunition. He also attempted to buy a gun but was denied.
