Mick Mulvaney: No new taxes to fund Trump’s border wall

Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney said Tuesday that the Trump administration will not be looking to raise taxes to fund the border wall, and said instead that the money would come from reduced spending in other areas of the government.

“We’re working right now putting the finishing touches on the FY ’19 budget,” he said on CNN. “The money that is allocated towards infrastructure spending, federal money that is, will be counted for in the budget.”

“There’ll be no new revenues raised as a part of our proposal,” he said.

“The bottom line, to your original question, I don’t think we’ll be proposing any new taxes,” Mulvaney added later.

The Trump administration has proposed $25 billion for new border security measures, including the border wall. Mulvaney estimated that about the wall itself will cost about $18 billion, and the rest of the money would be used to fund technology and other border measures.
