Prince George’s drive-by might have killed woman by mistake

Sarah Jane Miller was playing video games at home when she was killed in a drive-by shooting in what police said might have been a case of mistaken identity. Four years later, the Prince George’s County police are still looking for information in the 24-year-old Miller’s unsolved homicide.

The shooting happened in a Landover neighborhood that is familiar with gunfire, police said.

On Dec. 14, 2007, at approximately 2 a.m., several people in a dark sedan pulled up outside the residence, in the 7500 block of Greenleaf Road, and opened fire with semiautomatic weapons, police said.

When officers arrived, they discovered that two women had been shot inside their house. One of the victims, a 44-year-old, was shot in the hand; she was transported to a hospital where she was treated for a non-life-threatening injury.

The second victim was Miller. She was shot in the abdomen and she was taken to a hospital, where she died.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the shooters drove up to the front of a duplex-style house and began shooting. Multiple rounds went through both sides of the house, striking the women.

Investigators are looking into the possibility that occupants living on the other side of the house were the intended targets. A motive has not been established.
