George Conway speaks with ‘Anonymous’ and teases ‘a lot more’ from ‘resistance’ op-ed writer

George Conway says he’s been in contact with “Anonymous,” the self-described senior Trump administration official who two years ago wrote an op-ed about an internal “resistance” of government officials, claiming this “true patriot” will speak out.

The anti-Trump conservative lawyer, who is the husband of former White House counselor Kellyanne Conway, posted to Twitter on Wednesday about the conversation, less than a week before Election Day. Shortly afterwards, the Washington Post reported that Anonymous is expected to reveal his or her identity Wednesday afternoon.

“I had an amazing conversation this morning with … Anonymous,” he said. “Anonymous is a true patriot. We’ll all be hearing a lot more from this person very, very soon.”

Along with the tweet, Conway attached the op-ed from Anonymous published in the New York Times in September 2018 that spoke of an internal “resistance” group of officials working to stymie the president’s worst inclinations.

Anonymous also wrote a book that was published in 2019, A Warning, that served as a tell-all about happenings within the administration. The author promised that they would reveal their identity to the president before the November election.

“Trump will hear from me, in my own name, before the 2020 election,” the unnamed writer said in November 2019 during a Reddit forum.

A litany of Trump administration officials denied being the author amid frenetic speculation, including Vice President Mike Pence, former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. Trump, who called the author “gutless” and questioned whether a “so-called ‘Senior Administration Official'” really existed, even pushed then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions to investigate the source of the opinion piece.

Anonymous is not known to be connected with the hacker group under the same name.

Conway helped found the Lincoln Project, a group of anti-Trump Republicans working to keep the president from being reelected. In August, he said he would be stepping down from the group in order to focus on his family.
