Pelosi calls on GOP to back off hostile FBI rhetoric

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called on Republicans to rein in their attacks against the FBI following the Monday raid on former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence.

Pelosi said during a press conference Friday that GOP criticisms of the FBI have heightened the threat of violence against the agency as it investigates whether the former president mishandled classified documents. Republicans have accused the Biden administration of politicizing the FBI to target a potential 2024 rival.

‘WEAPONIZING THE JUSTICE SYSTEM’: TRUMP FAMILY REACTS TO FBI RAID OF MAR-A-LAGO

“You would think there would be an adult in the Republican room that would say, ‘Just calm down. See what the facts are, and let’s go for that,’” Pelosi said. “Instead of … instigating assaults on law enforcement.”

A man who attempted to breach an FBI building in Ohio and was later killed in a standoff with law enforcement sparked concerns that he was retaliating for the raid on Mar-a-Lago. While his motive is still under investigation, FBI Director Christopher Wray said there were threats against the agency following the raid.

The attacker posted about his plans on Truth Social, Trump’s social media platform.

Trump’s circle reacted to the Mar-a-Lago raid by immediately accusing the FBI and Department of Justice of abusing their authority for political gain.

“Biden’s out of control DOJ is ripping this country apart with how they’re openly targeting their political enemies,” Donald Trump Jr. tweeted. “This is what you see happen in 3rd World Banana Republics!!!”

Republican lawmakers called for immediate transparency about the reason for the raid. Agents searched Trump’s residence after an informant reportedly tipped off authorities that the former president had held on to classified documents after he left office, possibly including nuclear documents.

“We are very strong supporters of law enforcement, and it concerns everybody if you see some agents go rogue and if you see an agency that doesn’t have the right checks and balances at the top,” said House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA).
