Comedian Kathy Griffin said Friday she believes that President Trump ordered a Secret Service investigation into her after a photo of her holding a bloody head resembling the president was published last year.
“Of course,” Griffin said on ABC’s “Start Here” podcast when asked if she thinks Trump ordered the investigation. “You know how he works.”
The comedian said she didn’t have proof to support her allegation, but said Trump holds grudges against some people. “You know, he has a vendetta against certain people,” she said.
Griffin found herself at the center of controversy in May 2017 after she posed for a photograph holding a severed head that looked like Trump.
After the photo was released, Griffin said she was under federal investigation and confirmed on Twitter in July she had been interviewed by the Secret Service. Reports suggested Griffin spoke with Secret Service agents for more than an hour.
Griffin first apologized for the photo, but told ABC News she believes she was the victim of a coordinated campaign.
“What I didn’t realize is I was just being thrown, like, the Trump wood chipper,” she said. “I didn’t realize that day that they already had this apparatus in place. You know, how to coordinate with [Sean] Hannity and Fox News and how to coordinate with TMZ.”
