Fox News host Tucker Carlson tore into protesters who have toppled historical statues and monuments in several major American cities during weeks of unrest.
Speaking during his Wednesday night opening monologue, Carlson said the past few weeks of destructive protests are the fault of radicals who have no knowledge of U.S. history.
“These people are idiots,” Carlson said. “The angry children you watch set fire to Wendy’s and topple statues and scream at you on television day after day are truly and utterly stupid. There’s probably never been a dumber group gathered in one place in all of American history. They’re mouth-breathers, they know nothing.”
Statues commemorating former Presidents George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, and Andrew Jackson have all been targeted during the protests.
Carlson accused protesters who tore down monuments dedicated to anti-slavery figures thought the word “abolitionist” referred to “a band from the ’80s.”
“They say they oppose racism, and then they rip down monuments to abolitionists,” Carlson continued. “They don’t see the contradiction in that because they have no idea who the abolitionists were. They think it’s a band from the ’80s.”
