The lead actor in the Tony Award-winning production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was fired from the Broadway play following an internal complaint about the star’s conduct, according to the show’s producers.
An independent investigation into James Snyder, who portrays wizard Harry Potter in the production, led to the termination of Snyder’s contract, the producers said Sunday. No specific allegations or information on the inquiry have been released.
“We are committed to fostering a safe and inclusive workplace, which is why we have robust workplace policies and procedures in place for all those involved in ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,’” the producers said in a statement reported by the Associated Press. “This includes strict prohibitions against harassment in any form, as well as channels through which any employee can report conduct that they believe is inappropriate. We will continue to do all we can to ensure the extremely talented team that brings this production to life feels safe, empowered, and fully supported.”
JK ROWLING NOT FEATURED IN HARRY POTTER REUNION FOLLOWING COMMENTS ON TRANSGENDER PEOPLE
The investigation began after a female co-star filed a complaint against Snyder in November, which prompted his suspension a week after the show returned to Broadway amid the pandemic. The female co-star, Diane Davis, who plays Potter’s wife, Ginny, has taken a leave of absence from the show. Understudy Steve Haggard has been playing the titular role since Snyder’s suspension and will continue in the role.
