Mock NBA draft: Top 14

The Wizards could have announced their No. 1 selection immediately after hearing they won the NBA Draft Lottery. But there will be much more suspense in the rest of Thursday’s draft.

1. Wizards: John Wall, PG, Kentucky
The speedy point guard is the only player in this draft who has superstar potential, which is why this pick is a lock.

2. 76ers: Evan Turner, SG, Ohio State
It’s unclear what position Turner will play because he’s so versatile. He was the best scorer, rebounder and passer for the Buckeyes.

3. Nets: Derrick Favors, PF, Georgia Tech
The 6-foot-10 Favors is a little raw, but his athleticism makes him the post player with the highest ceiling.

4. Timberwolves: Wesley Johnson, SF, Syracuse
He’s already 22 years old, but he’s quick off the floor, has 3-point range and has impressed in workouts.

5. Kings: DeMarcus Cousins, C, Kentucky
The high-risk, high-reward pick. Cousins has the size, footwork and range to be a dangerous scorer in the post.

6. Warriors: Al-Farouq Aminu, SF, Wake Forest
He averaged a double-double as a sophomore. Aminu can run the floor well but needs to improve his range.

7. Pistons: Ed Davis, PF, North Carolina
Davis didn’t live up to expectations with the Tar Heels, but he has the tools to be great if he can ever put it together.

8. Clippers: Gordon Hayward, SF, Butler
L.A. could use a swingman. Butler’s run to the NCAA championship game has made Hayward a lottery pick.

9. Jazz: Greg Monroe, PF, Georgetown
A dream situation for Monroe and Utah. The skilled forward would be a perfect fit in Jerry Sloan’s system, especially if Carlos Boozer leaves.

10. Pacers: Paul George, SF, Fresno State
George has soared up draft boards. The small forward has deep range and is an above average rebounder for his size.

11. Hornets: Ekpe Udoh, PF, Baylor
New Orleans could use a shot blocker. Udoh is limited offensively, but is a great defender and very athletic.

12. Grizzlies: Luke Babbitt, SF, Nevada

The best shooter in the draft, Babbitt hit 41.6 percent of 3-pointers and 91.7 percent of free throws as a sophomore last season.

13. Raptors: Avery Bradley, SG, Texas

As a freshman, Bradley proved he can score and has great leaping ability, but he’s a little undersized (6-foot-3, 180 pounds).

14. Rockets: Cole Aldrich, C, Kansas

Houston has an undersized frontline and Yao Ming’s health is a big question so Aldrich could give the Rockets some much-needed size.
