There will be a trial in Egypt Thursday. The person on trial will be Kareem Amir, a blogger who has courageously advocated equal rights for women and freedom of speech. Advocating such views got him arrested in November and he has been jailed in Alexandria since then, awaiting trial. He faces a long prison sentence if convicted. When the Egyptian government arrests you, you can count on jail time … unless there is an international outcry. There will be a protest today at 3:30 pm in New York City at the Egyptian Consulate.
