JACKSON, Mich. (AP) — A series of electrical explosions underneath a southern Michigan mall parking lot forced the evacuation of the shopping center and several nearby stores.
No injuries were reported at Westwood Mall near Jackson following Thursday evening’s blasts.
MLive.com reports (http://bit.ly/MbGKYh ) officials determined that the explosions, which sent a manhole cover into the air, were caused by electrical lines that run below the parking lot. Part of the shopping center lost power and Westwood Mall officials closed early as a precautionary measure.
Blackman-Leoni Township public safety Deputy Director Jon Johnston says utility crews were called to the scene to fix the problem.
