Gingrich: I’m being vetted for Trump’s vice president

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich admitted Thursday night that he is being vetted as a possible running mate for GOP presumptive nominee Donald Trump and that he expects the announcement next Thursday or Friday.

“Is that a yes? You would say yes if he asked you?” Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren asked him.

“I think it would be very, very hard for Callista and me not to find a way to serve the country,” Gingrich responded.

But the host pushed for more clarification,” So that’s a yes?”

“Okay,” replied Gingrich.

“That’s a yes?” she asked again.

“If I say yes, then that becomes Gingrich admits on Greta’s show so,” Gingrich said. “So what the heck, why not. All right, I’m not going to go all out. If Trump offers the position and is serious about it, which I think he would be after our conversations, Callista and I would feel compelled to serve the country.”

Gingrich added he is one of six people currently being vetted by the Trump campaign for the position. He also said he envisions himself focusing on repairing the Department of Veterans Affairs as Trump’s partner in the White House, should it come to that.
