President Trump issued an order on Monday for flags to be flown at half-staff for the remainder of the week, following a deadly mass shooting in Las Vegas that left more than 50 dead and hundreds more injured.
“Our nation is heartbroken. We mourn with all whose loved ones were murdered and injured in last night’s horrible tragedy in Las Vegas, Nevada,” Trump said in a proclamation issued early Monday morning. “As we grieve, we pray that God may provide comfort and relief to all those suffering.”
Las Vegas police responded to reports of shots fired during a country music concert late Sunday night, after a 64-year-old man opened fire from the 32nd floor of a nearby hotel. The shooter was later found dead, believed to have committed suicide before SWAT team members stormed his room.
Trump called the shooting an “act of pure evil” during remarks from the White House Monday morning. He plans to visit Las Vegas on Wednesday, a day after traveling to Puerto Rico to meet with victims of Hurricane Maria.
