Bonus checks: Arkansas teachers to receive one-time $1,500 payment for holiday season

Arkansas teachers can expect a bonus check of $1,500 just in time for the holiday season.

The checks, approved in May, are aimed to provide relief for teachers working during the coronavirus pandemic and transitioning to remote learning. The $1,500 bonus payments are for Fort Smith Public Schools teachers, according to Talk Business.

Bonuses will go to several “veteran” teachers in the Fort Smith Public School system. Classroom teachers, special education coordinators, adult education teachers, instructional specialists, and interventionists can expect a check.

Recipients should receive the checks by Dec. 15. Teachers also will receive a benefit from the Certified Salary Schedule, which raises their salary by $3,471.81 per annum, on average — a 5.89% pay increase for the 2022-2023 school year.

Next contract year, Arkansas teachers will receive increased pay between $800 to $6,300 after the salary schedule added $5,500 to the base pay, increasing it from $38,500 to $44,000.

School administrators, such as principals and assistant principals, qualify, but district-level administrators, such as department directors, do not.
