Sen. Richard Burr, R-N.C., said Tuesday that the confirmation vote of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh should move forward right after Thursday’s hearing.
“Immediately following the conclusion of Thursday’s hearing, the Senate Judiciary Committee should vote up or down on Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination,” Burr said in a statement Tuesday. “I intend to support Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination when it comes before the full Senate.”

Burr said that Democrats’ words and actions have proved that they will stop at nothing to stall Kavanaugh’s confirmation.
Democrats have engaged in an effort to delay Kavanaugh’s confirmation until after the 2018 midterms, where they hope to take back a majority in Congress and completely block Trump’s second Supreme Court nomination.
“Democrats made it clear they would stop at nothing to block President Trump’s Supreme Court pick before Judge Kavanaugh was even chosen as the nominee,” Burr said. “President Trump has every right to nominate the individual of his choosing to the Supreme Court.”
The Senate Judiciary Committee’s vote on Kavanaugh’s confirmation was pushed back after Christine Blasey Ford came forward with allegations of sexual assault against the judge.
Ford alleges that Kavanaugh drunkenly groped her at a high school get-together 36 years ago. A few days later, a second woman, Deborah Ramirez, claims Kavanaugh exposed himself to her at a college party at Yale more than three decades ago.
Kavanaugh and Ford are set to appear before the committee Thursday for a public hearing regarding the allegations.
