Obamacare funding included in Senate spending bill

A Senate panel is expected to include funding for Obamacare next year in a move that could anger some conservatives, according to a report in Morning Consult.

A Senate appropriations subcommittee is expected to vote on the proposal Tuesday and the full committee will consider it later this week. Multiple reports show that the bill will also include a $2 billion increase for the National Institutes of Health in 2017.

The expected Senate bill is a stark contrast from a House appropriations bill released last month that halts funding for the controversial healthcare law.

Obamacare funding has been a contentious issue in Congress. Back in 2013, House and Senate conservatives shut down the government because of Obamacare funding in a spending bill.

The NIH could also get more money from Congress besides the proposed $2 billion boost. Democrats and Republicans are working to reach a bipartisan agreement to boost funding as part of a larger package on biomedical research.
